USA Students Successful at Regional Robotics Conference
University Places Higher Than Any Other Alabama School

Students from the University of South Alabama School of Computer and Information Sciences and the College of Engineering recently competed at the regional Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers robotics contest held in Charlotte, N.C.

The 44-school contest involved an attempt to conquer the challenge of a solar-powered robot completing a variety of tasks in an obstacle course. Teams were judged on how many times their robot could go through obstacles in three minutes. This was USA’s first experience in this contest which included teams from major research universities across the Southeast. USA placed fourth overall and highest place among Alabama universities. These results highlight the recent robotic research by the School of Computer and Information Sciences and the College of Engineering.

The team consisted of undergraduate students: John Licato, Ezbon Jacob, Michael Wilson, Christina Bijayananda, Oladapo Ogunjobi, Nathan Miller, and Derrick Nelson, and graduate students Clay Smith, Chris Townsend, Seiichi Sugawara, and Stephen Zuercher.
